Accessibility

This site is built to be usable by everyone, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard alone, a phone in bright sunlight, or a browser with the animation turned off. This page says what we test, what we found, and what to do if something still gets in your way.

What we test against

The target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 at level AA. Every page is checked in light and dark appearance, at a desktop width and at a phone width, with the following in each case.

• Text contrast of at least 4.5 to 1, and 3 to 1 for large text, on every visible element
• A visible focus ring on every link, button and form field when moving through the page with a keyboard
• Pointer targets of at least 24 by 24 pixels for anything that is not a link inside a sentence
• One h1 per page and headings in order, so a screen reader outline reads as a table of contents
• A text alternative on every image that carries meaning, and none on the ones that are decorative
• A label on every form field, and error and status messages announced through a live region
• No content that only appears on hover, and nothing that requires a mouse
• The whole site working with JavaScript switched off
• Animation and transitions disabled when the operating system asks for reduced motion
• No horizontal scrolling at 390 pixels wide

What we did on purpose

• A skip link is the first thing a keyboard reaches on every page.
• The FAQ uses native disclosure elements, so it works with any assistive technology that understands a button.
• The colour scheme follows your operating system, and you can pin light or dark from the footer.
• Icons are drawn inline and hidden from assistive technology, because the text beside them already says what they mean.
• Nothing on the site autoplays, flashes or moves on its own.

What is not perfect

• The contact form is protected by Google reCAPTCHA. The checkbox version is used because it is the one with a working keyboard path and an audio alternative, but it is a third party control and we do not control its accessibility. If it stops you, email us instead and we will treat the message exactly the same.
• Links inside sentences are the height of the text line, which is under 24 pixels on some pages. This is within the guideline's exception for inline links, but if you find one hard to hit, the same destination is always available from a larger control nearby.
• The site is in English only.

A partner reads it, and we treat it as a defect rather than feedback. We aim to reply within one working day and to fix what can be fixed within the following week.
